Wal-Mart Stores, Inc (NYSE:WMT) shooting case reopened

The father of the man who was shot on the 5th of August in the Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) store in Ohio, has said that his son was murdered by the police officers and nobody did anything about it. According to the father, his son hadn’t threatened or hurt anyone; the police just opened fire at him for no reason – hit him in the elbow and ribs.  The grand jury assigned to hear the case acquitted the police officers of all charges, citing reasons that they had done what they were trained to do in those circumstances.

The family believes that the victim wasn’t even given a chance, on account of his racial color. They said that had he been Caucasian, it might have been a different turn out.

The father said that the grand jury only focused on the situation from the officers’ point of view, without any focus on whether they acted reasonably in the situation or not. He expressed that a person’s life should be worth a lot more than that.

The police community has a different take on it; they claim that the victim didn’t obey their commands. He was asked to put down the weapon twice, to which he didn’t comply. After numerous warnings, he was shot. Police claims that it was their duty and this is what they are trained for.

The family of the deceased said that the surveillance tape is there for the world to see and judge whether he was shot unreasonably or not. They claim that the police just barged in and shot him coldly without any warnings or attempts to communicate with him in any way.

The justice department has the authority to review the practices of the Police. They assured that the investigation into the case will be thorough; and if there are any irregularities found, then the policemen who carried out the shooting will be dealt with according to the law.

In this whole fiasco, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc (NYSE:WMT) has gained unnecessary media attention, giving it a negative outlook. Many people have started to question their security measures inside the shop. The fact that some guy just walked in and picked up a rifle is an odd and a questionable situation.

The Justice Department will be looking into the case through the perspective of the civil rights issue. If indeed the boy was shot prejudicially because of his race, appropriate actions will be taken. The case will require an extensive investigation and on-scene witnesses.

There has been a national uproar against the shooting of the boy in the Ohio Wal-Mart Stores, Inc (NYSE:WMT) store, which has also been a catalyst in making the authorities look into the case once more. Before this, the case was all done and dusted – the grand jury had given its verdict, but thanks to the public uproar and the volatile nature of this case, which actually threats nationwide racial protest, the case will be reviewed once more.

One must feel for the Wal-Mart Stores, Inc (NYSE:WMT) company that has been caught and hurt in this whole debacle, in context of its PR. It will be unfortunate for Wal-Mart to take the hit from this entire situation.
