Verizon (NYSE:VZ)’s Third Quarter Results Show Data About Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone 5c and 5s Sales
Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) was the first one to reveal its 2013’s third quarter’s financial results today. The reports became the one of the first sources, in addition to a press release by Apple, to give some information on the sales of iPhone 5C and 5s phones by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). Apple’s press release revealed that on their launch weekend 9 million handsets were sold.
According to the data announced through a conference call by Verizon – a top US wireless carrier – the company during its third quarter activated somewhere around 3.9 million Apple’s iPhones. This number makes up more than half of a total of 7.6 million smartphones that were activated by Verszon. Verizon’s third quarter results for iPhone are higher as compared to its last year’s third quarter figures of 3.1 million iPhones. Verizon says that it had to deal with some supply constraints of iPhone in the month of September, due to which some of the sales results will flow into and revealed in this year’s fourth quarter.
According to Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) 99% of the company’s LTE 3G footprint has been covered; the wireless carrier now covers more than 500 markets to which more smaller towns will be added in the next few months. Verizon’s data claims that in the third quarter the company has achieved 6.8 million activations of devices that are 4G LTE, which is an improvement from last year’s third quarter by 21.1%.
Verizon’s third quarter results show that the company’s total wireless customer base of retail postpaid comprises of over 67% of smartphone users. This figure was 64% in 2013’s second quarter.
The results of quarterly earnings for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will be announced by Apple itself on the 28th of October this year.
