Verizon (NYSE:VZ) will be Offering a Better than iPhone Camera in the New Android

86

Sony (NYSE:SNE) is now changing its focus from Japan and Europe to the US and now their phones will start becoming available at your local carrier, which previously wasn’t so. This October 23 was the first time in history when Sony (NYSE:SNE) made a deal with Verizon (NYSE:VZ) for their Xperia Z3v. Last month they launched their Xperia Z3 through T-Mobile (NYSE:TMUS) which is slightly different.

The Xperia Z3v has a 5.2 inch 1080p screen with a glass panel at the back which makes the backside of the smartphone feel exactly like a touch screen. You can get the Xperia Z3v for $680 without a contract and for $199 only with a two year contract. Even though Xperia is a good phone, but it is offering nothing different to the consumers who are completely hooked on the iPhone and loyal to the Samsung brand.

On the outside the Xperia looks about the same size of an average Andriod phone and weighs the same running on a Qualcomm processor with a Snapdragon 801 chip being offered by most phones. Its screen is 5.2 inches and is 1080p. Storage space being offered is 32 GB but can be increased to 128 GB but 3 GB memory will be used on the phone for the operating system.

How Sony is planning to compete with these popular brands is to give the users an Xperia which is water resistant. It is IP65 as well as IP68 certified meaning you can submerge the Xperia under 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes and observe for yourself that no damage has been done. It can also hook up with PlayStation and starting from November, content can be streamed from the 4 onto your smartphone by using the Remote Play Feature.

The camera which the Xperia is offering is coming with a larger than usual censor of 20.7 megapixels, compared to 16 mp for the Galaxy S5 and 8 mp for the iPhone. The battery life is excellent and you can go by a whole day without charging the phone again and again. However, if you use extremely draining apps the battery life would be used up more quickly ofcourse.

The phone runs on Android KitKat 4.4 which is a skinned version of it hence you get to see Sony’s () own application, the Walkman, its album, the movies and PlayStation icons on the home screen. Google applications are also present on the home screen which makes the interface seem too cluttered. There are also widgets which nobody would use but which are taking up space on the home screen like the Amazon widget.

If you want to edit you can surely do that by pressing any blank space on the screen and delete any widget or icon. There is also a menu available if you want to rearrange the applications. Even the Xperia camera can be used underwater, which will prove useful for people into water sports.
