Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) Latest Feature Allows Users To Record And Share Videos In Direct Messages
Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) has launched a new feature, which allows users to share videos via Direct Messages (DM). The update is currently being rolled out in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iOS and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android run devices globally. Twitter has recently been in crisis for the slow growth of the social network; however, its recent strategies shows it dedication to keeping up competing with the likes of Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s Messenger.
Direct Messages users wishing to send and share videos can tap on the camera icon next to the compose message. They will be given the options of either sending a pre-recorded video or recording a video using their phone’s camera. Despite the option users choose, the video will be uploaded and can be sent alongside a message or just by itself. The video feature is functional for both mobile and web users although those accessing Direct Messaging through twitter.com will not be in a position to share videos.
The video support feature is one of the many recent changes that have been made by Twitter. Last week, the company announced that its users could send GIFs in direct messages and tweets. Earlier this month, the micro-blogging platform switched to an algorithmic timeline, which is focused on timeliness and quality as opposed to ranking tweets in a chronological manner. Currently, users have the options to incorporate videos, images, GIFs, emojis alongside regular text. These updates have made direct messaging in Twitter to become more visual.
Last year Twitter made a couple of changes to Direct Messaging. It introduced the option of group chats and then added the option, which allowed users to opt in on whether to receive direct messages from anyone on the site.
Previously Twitter did not enable people to communicate privately with users that followed them. During August, Twitter scraped the 140-character limit in DMs. This was a significant change in the platforms most distinguishing trait. It might have served as a sign of better things to come.
