Samsung (KRX: 005930) to launch Galaxy Note Edge in the U.S.

101

There have been rumors regarding the launch of the Samsung (KRX: 005930) Galaxy Note Edge this fall in the US. However, no reports have been given formally and now the smartphone has just passed the Federal Communications Commission approval process. This means that it may be for sale in the future very soon.

By the looks of the document approved by the FCC, AT&T (NYSE:T) along with T-Mobile (NYSE:PCS) will likely become the first carriers to get the phone for distribution. The document states the bands and the line ups which will be used by the mobile carriers as the blogs, PhoneArena and GForGames state.

It has been years since Samsung (KRX: 005930) has continuously shown off its curved displays and this will be the first time that the technology will be entering the U.S.

The smartphone is similar to the company’s Galaxy Note 4 which was just launched. However one difference is that its screen is curved from the edges, not only that but the screen is also different because its edge basically acts as a separate screen altogether individual to the main display.

Considering the hardware features of the phone, the screen has a ‘Quad HD’ display. Its resolution is 2560×1440 and it has a 2.5D glass which shows its slight curve. Other features of the phone are its flat screen with 5.7 inch diagonal which means however, that it isn’t larger than smartphones these days. The Note isn’t going to be water-resistant like former Galaxy S5 smartphones released at the start of this year.

Rumor has it that the new phone may sell at a higher price than former phones but the company hasn’t reported anything regarding this issue. A spokeswoman for the company stated that the new phone will be released for sale somewhere this October. Following this launch will be the Note Edge as well as the Gear VR soon next fall.

Samsung (KRX: 005930) states its benefits regarding the second curvy screen which allows a person to see the time even when the display of the smartphone is turned off.  The second benefit is that a person may also use the second screen individually to view notifications and not have to turn off any other activity being carried out by the consumer at the time on the mail screen of the smartphone.

Ben Wood, the Chief of Research at the firm CCS Insight (BOM: 532405) stated that the company must make sure this phone becomes a hit with the consumers to counter for its poor reception of the Galaxy S5.

The company still has to decide its pricing before it becomes available in the United States, the smartphone Notes of the company are basically somewhere around $300 in cost with two-year contracts. Now the company must decide how to act with this product. At this point anything may be considered by the company, to counteract with other smartphone launches like Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 6s.
