Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) To Launch Underwatera Data Center
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has revealed an impressive underwater data center that might be the next step towards better cloud computing.
The software and tech company sent a prototype of the data center hundreds of feet below the ocean surface in an effort during a test session. The data center is a reason for the tech industry to be excited because it might be the solution to problems such as heating which currently takes up expensive solutions such as air conditioning.
Data centers that operate today are tasked with massive data requirements such as social networks and video streaming. As a result, the servers produce a lot of heat, thus posing threats such as crashing. Cold ocean water might be the best solutions to solve the heating problems. Microsoft is thinking of including an energy generating system on the underwater data centers. They can either be paired with a tidal wave energy system or a turbine.
Renewable energy is also under consideration. The project which was nicknamed Project Natrick has been estimated to survive for up to 20 years under water without any human influence. Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Google announced on its website that the project is part of the firm’s efforts to come up with data center solutions that will include fewer costs while at the same time offering an environmental sustainability and faster responsiveness.
Microsoft claims that having the data centers under water does not pose any threat to the environment. The company reported that the sea life quickly adapted to the deployed vessel during the testing phase. Now that the testing was a success, Microsoft plans to build bigger data centers three times bigger than the prototype.
This project marks the company’s success in finding alternative solutions that solve problems the whole data industry has been facing. Major tech firms such as Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Google have been contemplating the use of aircrafts to deliver data. However, the underwater solutions provide better advantages, thus proving to be a superior solution.
