China Mobile Ltd. (ADR) (NYSE:CHL)
The first half figures of the company indicate that its net income is up by 2.5%, which is 35.2 billion Yuan and equal to $5.8 billion; this figure was 34.4 billion Yuan last year. The current figures have exceeded the figure of 33.9 billion Yuan, which is an average of different figures predicted by at least 4 different analysts.
China Mobile – one of the three largest mobile carriers in China – is the only mobile carrier in the country that does not offer iPhone. The company is expected to face its first yearly profit fall in about 14 years.
China Mobile’s second quarter’s sales results show an upward growth by 15% (168.4 billion Yuan), whereas six different analysts predicted that the company would get revenue of only 147.8 billion Yuan. When it comes to trading in Hong Kong, the company has gone up by 0.4% (HK$84.25). Due to a slightly changed Hang Seng Index benchmark, this year shares of China Mobile have gone down by 6.7%.
According to the company’s last month’s data, 63% (740.2 million users) of China’s total mobile users are customers of China Mobile. This figure was 65% last year whereas it was 68% couple of years ago. To overcome this decline China Mobile is focusing on its smartphone sales. When it comes to 3G users, the company’s last month’s report shows that out of the total of 137.9 million 3G users, 23.5 million are China Mobile consumers.
Macy’s Inc. (NYSE:M)
According to Macy’s Inc. (NYSE:M), its second quarter profits went up to $281 million (72 cents a share) from last year’s $279 million (67 cents per share). However, its sales went down by a figure of 0.8% ($6.07 billion) with a drop of 0.8% in comparable sales. Macy’s comparable sales of full year stand at 2.9%, which does not meet the estimated figure of 3.5%. Macy’s profit outlook also went to $3.90 from $3.80; the prior range was $3.95 a share. According to the data from FactSet analysts were looking for an average second quarter profit of about 78 cents a share and $3.95 a share for this year. In the premarket trading, Macy’s went down by 3.3%.
