Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) Receives Good Mileage Ratings From EPA
Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) will be happy that its F-150 received great ratings from the U.S Environmental Protection Agency as far as fuel economy is concerned. The estimates were 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined. As far as fuel economy ratings are concerned, these are the best for full sized gasoline powered pickups.
But that’s not all. The Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) is ahead in ratings but not so much. It’s being followed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (NYSE:FCAU)’s The Ram 1500 which is a gasoline powered pickup too. It has a highway mileage rating of 25 mpg while the gas pumped Chevy Silverado produced by General Motors Co. (NYSE:GM) comes with a fuel economy of rating 24 mpg on highway. Comparing these stats, Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) isn’t beyond the horizon just as yet.
As far as mileage is concerned, Ram 1500 Eco-Diesel is way ahead, which is rated by the EPA at 20 mpg in city, 28 mpg on highway and 23 mpg combined. That’s definitely better than Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F)’s F-150’s ratings. But Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) states that Diesel costs more as compared to gasoline. Higher fuel cost combined with higher acquisition cost leaves no payback. And even if there is a payback, it will take a lot of time to come in.
Diesel is considered to be more efficient than gasoline, but the 3.066 dollar per gallon price leaves little room to cherish a payback. Especially for the customers which are finding some sort of reprieve in prices. On the other hand, gasoline might not be as credible as diesel but the price, which is extremely low, makes it the ideal fuel. Most of the cars opt for gasoline these days. The reason is the same as we mentioned: Higher payback expectation.
Ram 1500 Eco-Diesel beat Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F)’s F-150 pickup to win the Green truck of the year award. The thing that went in favor of Ram 1500 was the fact that F-150’s mileage rating wasn’t available. Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) still insists that F-150 will revolutionize the pickup category. And as far as the EPA estimates are concerned, we have mentioned that they aren’t bad at all, just the fact that there is always room for improvement. Considering the competition surrounding Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F), there is no room for complacency.

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) shouldn’t be concerned with awards and accolades. The deciding factor at the end is the sales and performance of the car. Once that is sorted out, an automobile is considered a success. Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) has a rich history of producing great automobiles and we expect that F-150 will provide no exception to that. It’s true rivalries these days are rich and everyday an auto company is coming up with a car that is besting its predecessor but Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) has withstood the tests of time and it will continue to come up with safe, efficient and dominant vehicles.
