Ericsson (ADR) (NASDAQ:ERIC) To Launch WiFi-calling And Voice Over LTE For Cable And Wireless Communications
Ericsson (ADR) (NASDAQ:ERIC) will work together with Cable and Wireless Communications in Panama to launch voice over LTE and WiFi calling for the company’s network in Panama.
Cable and Wireless Panama’s (CWP) network announced the new development through a press release that revealed the plan to allow seamless switch over between LTE and WiFi for both voice calls and video calls. The firm announced that the mission will involve an Evolved Packet Core solution and an IMS that will boost the performance between both mobile and fixed convergence as well as boosting subscriber services such as VoLTE and WiFi calling.
Carlo Alloni from EVP Technology and Group CTIO stated that the company is constantly working towards upgrading their networks so that it can offer better services to its clients. He also added the upgrade will allow the firm to provide more options to its customers in Panama so they can make better regular calls everywhere and with better quality at any time of the day.
Ericsson’s WIFI calling solution depends on an Evolved Packet Core that includes a WIFI Mobility Gateway (it combines both TWAG and EPDG). The technology also leverages Ericsson’s IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). The technology particularly targets smartphones that allow WIFI calling. The company also revealed that the IMS will allow for the implementation of LTE services in the future.
The two firms are currently implementing, integrating and rolling out the solution. Clayton Cruz, the VP of Ericsson in Latin America stated that the solution will make it possible for Cable and Wireless to use one efficient core network to boost several communications services. It will additionally allow a better user experience through the launch of superior communication services. Cruz further stated that the firm will achieve these goals through the delivery of seamless video calling and HD voice services that will be extended to more locations.
