Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:APPL) To Offer Price Cuts On IPad Mini 2 And 3

Looks like Apple (NASDAQ:APPL) is desperate to bring a turnaround in its drowning and troubled iPad category. It’s a precedent that when a new device is about to be released, the old one is put on sale, but Apple Inc (NASDAQ:APPL) is concerned about the performance of the much anticipated iPad Mini 2 and 3 to the point that it will be offering them at the sale price $133.
Apple (NASDAQ:APPL) iPad Mini 2 and 3 with their retina displays are the last hope to revive the dwindling iPad category and Apple (NASDAQ:APPL) is making sure that customers come around and save the sinking category. At one point, the iPad category was faring so well that it looked like the device will eclipse iPhones, but that didn’t happen. In fact as the time went on, people started losing interest in iPads.
These iPads will come with slight updates such as fingerprint sensor and availability in Champagne Gold. The specifications are also updated, better than previous model. The retina display is 2048 X 1536 which is significantly high. Height is 7.87 inches while width is 5.3 inches. Processor has notched up to A7 chip with 64 bit architecture. The camera is a lackluster 5 MP while the front camera is 1.2 MP. We don’t see any significant upgrades that will persuade the consumers to buy these tablets. However, the price tag might prove to be a healthy lure.
There is news floating around that these prices will go lower once the holiday season gets nearer. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) must be betting on the price factor to lure in the customers because apart from the glorious retina display, there isn’t much that these tablets are offering, which Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) hasn’t offered in the past. And considering the fact that there are bigger and better tablets around for cheaper prices, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s chances of reviving the category seems narrow.
The competition has heated up in the market as far as tablets are concerned. It’s not 2010 when the first iPad released. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) will have to tackle the mighty Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Nexus 9, along with multitude of tablets coming from Samsung Electronics Inc. (KRX:005930) and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) that are just as good as iPads, probably even more. In such conditions, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) should have looked for cutting edge; but we don’t see any substantial update.
Considering all these circumstances surrounding iPad Mini 2 and 3’s release, it’s a good move on Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s part to lower the prices because the holiday season is approaching and most of the customers are banking on the holiday sales to buy such high end tech products. This is the first time Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) is offering a price cut on a device which hasn’t been released yet. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) is lowering its ego in order to revive the lost glory of one of its most powerful category. Let’s see whether it plays out in Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s favor or not.
