An Adventurous Collaboration between T2T and Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) to Improve Here Even More
To build the mapping application by the name of HERE, Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) has partnered up with Tsitsikamma to Tataouine Expedition or more commonly known as T2T. The venture kicked off on the 5th of October from Tsitsikamma in South Africa.
In order to get all Points of Interest from tourist attractions, small town and other places a team will add a GPS powered by HERE in its vehicle and will gather the required information, geometry and data as they travel on their route. The gathered information will be sent to Nokia HERE team of Sub Sahara in Johannesburg; the database will get new data every couple of weeks so that accurate mapping within Africa can be developed.
HERE’s Yoganathan Naidoo says that his team is very excited about its collaboration with expedition team of T2T. He believes that this partnership will help the HERE team gather all the necessary information including speed restrictions, road names, geometry and road quality etc. He also says that new Point of Interests such as shops, gas stations, eat outs, schools, accommodation, border posts etc.
Prior to this venture, HERE is already providing maps of automotive grade to many African countries, such as South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Morocco, Kenya Lesotho, Egypt, Swaziland, and Reunion. The data gathered for these countries has been obtained within the field and has been thoroughly checked and verified, making HERE maps extremely reliable and accurate. This venture with T2T will help HERE update their data and improve the content’s accuracy even more.
Team consisting of Tracy Angus-Hammod, Ishtar Lakhani and Matt from Nokia Lumia series of Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) is also a part of this expedition. These members will be in charge of taking high quality images and providing updates from their phones through their channels of social media.
The main purpose of this adventure like venture is to capture the true beauty of Africa and share it with others.
